TRAVELCATALINA ISLAND

Privacy policy

Last updated October 8, 2026

Travel Catalina Island (travelcatalinaisland.com) is an independent guide to Catalina Island. We don’t sell anything on the site, you don’t need an account to use it, and we collect as little about you as we can. This page explains what we do collect and why.

What we collect

  • Visit statistics. We use Google Analytics to count visits and see which pages are useful: pages viewed, how you arrived, your device and browser type, and your approximate location (city level). Google Analytics sets cookies to do this.
  • Things you send us. If you add a business, suggest a correction or claim a listing, we keep what you type into the form (your name, email, phone if given, and the listing details) plus the IP address it came from, so we can check the request and follow up with you.
  • Server and security logs. Like every website, our servers and our security provider (Cloudflare) record basic request details such as IP address, browser and time. We use these to keep the site running and block abuse.

What stays on your device

  • Saved places. The places you heart are stored in your own browser. We never see the list.
  • Your location. “Near me” only works if you allow it in your browser. Your position is used on your device to sort places by distance and is never sent to us.

Other services the site loads

Some parts of the page come straight from other companies, which means your browser connects to them and they can see your IP address: map tiles from OpenStreetMap, business photos from Google and from businesses’ own websites, and analytics from Google. Each has its own privacy policy. The share buttons are plain links: nothing from Facebook or X loads unless you click one. When you follow a link to a business, a ferry company or another site, their policy applies there.

How we use it

To run and improve the site, to review and publish listing changes, and to reply to you. We don’t sell your personal information, we don’t share it for advertising, and we don’t send marketing email.

How long we keep it

Form submissions are kept for as long as the listing they relate to is on the site, or until you ask us to delete them. Google Analytics keeps visit data for no more than 14 months. Server logs are kept for a short time and then deleted.

Your choices

  • You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings, or opt out of Google Analytics with Google’s opt-out browser add-on. The site works the same either way.
  • You can ask us what we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. California residents have these rights under the CCPA, and we extend them to everyone. We won’t treat you differently for asking.

Children

The site is for planning trips and isn’t aimed at children under 13. We don’t knowingly collect information from them.

Changes

If we change how we handle information, we’ll update this page and the date at the top.
